Man arrested for suspected involvement in cheating cases

SINGAPORE — A 36-year-old man was arrested today (Jan 15) for suspected involvement in at least four cases of cheating island-wide.

The police received reports of victims who were cheated of money paid to the man as fees to secure job offers this month.

In all cases, the suspect posed as a freelance agent and offered them various job opportunities with attractive salaries to work in Singapore.

In order to secure employment, victims had to pay a deposit ranging from S$1,000 to S$2,000. On each occasion, after payment, the man was uncontactable.

Through extensive follow-up investigations, police officers established the identity of the suspect and arrested him today in Ang Mo Kio.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. The offence of cheating carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine.
