Man stabs woman in Geylang; to be charged in court on New Year’s Day

SINGAPORE – A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman with a knife along Geylang Lorong 16 on Saturday (Dec 30) morning.

The 29-year-old suspect will be charged in court for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon on New Year’s Day (Monday, Jan 1).

The Singapore Police Force said they received a report of the incident at 11.49am. The man was arrested shortly after along Guillemard Road at 12.16pm, said the police.

TODAY understands that the woman had been walking with another person when the suspect approached her. The suspect allegedly stabbed her with a small knife before running away.

The victim was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where she is now in stable condition. It is unclear how the victim is related to the suspect.

If found guilty, the suspect faces life imprisonment, or a jail term of up to 15 years. He also faces a fine or caning.
