SINGAPORE — Singer Kelly Poon created a bit of an online sensation after she uploaded a new Mandarin cover of the theme song Always from the popular Korean TV drama, Descendants Of The Sun on Thursday (May 5).

The cover, sang with another Singaporean artiste, Jeric Tan, scored more than 306,000 views and 9,718 likes on her Facebook page and received positive comments and requests from fans to cover the other songs from the Korean blockbuster drama.

“Will I do it? Absolutely, if people love hearing me sing them,” Poon said.

Viewers praised her on her take of the song saying that she has did justice to the original version of the song, which was sung by Yoon Mi-rae.

“I’m so grateful for the encouraging response, and that more fans from around the region got to know me from such a surprising way,” said Poon, who claimed to be a fan of the drama series and that she covered the song “out of pure love for the drama”.

Poon, 32, was the runner-up of the season one Project Superstar back in 2005 but the singer admitted that she faced some struggles in setting her career alight. She was eventually signed to Warner Music and released her album Ms Kelly in 2014.

In a previous interview with TODAY, she said: “There have been many difficulties, and I’ve been through ups and downs. I keep moving from company to company, and every step has been a learning process.”
