SINGAPORE — Manjusri Library has re-opened, following a year of major refurbishment work which cost about S$1 million.

SINGAPORE — Manjusri Library has re-opened, following a year of major refurbishment work which cost about S$1 million.

The public Buddhist library is located in Geylang Lorong 27. It features a new third storey and houses more than 10,000 books of various genres and DVDs.

Visitors can also find more than 100 Buddhist reference books, many of which are rare.

The library, which is managed by the Nan Hai Fei Lai Guan Yin Monastery, also hosts various activities such as enrichment classes and health talks.

Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, the library’s adviser, was the guest of honour at the reopening yesterday.

He said the library’s programmes help promote inter-religious understanding and strengthen racial and religious harmony.

“Such activities help promote better inter-religious understanding and strengthen racial and religious harmony that Singapore and Singaporeans have enjoyed for many decades,” he said.

“The efforts of community organisations, working together with the people and the Government, have helped build strong social and communal bonds among Singaporeans.”

Mr Teo added: “As our society becomes more diverse with different interests and attitudes, it becomes even more important for us to build on what we have in common, rather than focus on what is different.

“We must all do our part to build national unity while we celebrate the unique blend of cultures and religions that make up our society.”
