SINGAPORE — Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said this morning (Jan 9) that he is glad to see traffic on the Marina Costal Expressway (MCE) flowing well in a full work week.

Mr Teo, who is also Coordinating Minister for National Security and Home Affairs Minister, noted on his Facebook page that more people have become familiar with Singapore’s latest expressway.

“It was quite an engineering and construction challenge for our LTA (Land Transport Authority) engineers, and will allow better integrated development and traffic flow in our new business district in Marina,” he said.

On the second day of its operation on Dec 30 last year, traffic on some parts of the expressway was heavy, with bottlenecks in exits to Central Boulevard.

The Land Transport Authority has since made adjustments to ease traffic, which was generally smoother as people returned to work after the New Year holiday season on Jan 6 this year.

Spanning 5km, the MCE has been described as a massive engineering feat, and is Singapore’s costliest expressway. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
