SINGAPORE — A Singaporean who went missing while travelling on a ferry from Malaysia to Singapore has been found.

In a statement late yesterday night (April 19), the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said she had been rescued by a fishing vessel and is now in Batam.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is assisting her travel back to Singapore.

According to MPA, she had been reported missing yesterday morning after the ferry berthed at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore.

The operator of the “SINDO EMPRESS” ferry told Channel NewsAsia that the crew had discovered a bag and shoes on the outer deck of the vessel about 20 minutes after departing Tanjong Pengelih in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The crew then conducted a headcount of its passengers on board and did a search of the ferry.

When it berthed, it also got the Singapore Cruise Centre to do a check via CCTV, where it confirmed that only 39 of the 40 passengers had disembarked. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
