Missing Singaporean in Cambodia found: MFA

SINGAPORE — Mr Sanjay Radakrishna, who was reported missing in Cambodia on Saturday (July 5), was found safe, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.

The MFA told Channel NewsAsia: “The missing Singaporean has been found safe. The Singapore Embassy in Phnom Penh is in contact with the local authorities and the next-of-kin to arrange for his return to Singapore.”

The 26-year-old was travelling alone in Cambodia, and was last seen last Tuesday with a local mountain guide, according to an earlier report. Mr Radakrishna, a trainee teacher who is completing his final year of studies at the National Institute of Education, had reportedly told his girlfriend he was going to climb Phnom Aural, Cambodia’s tallest peak at 1.8km.

He was supposed to fly back to Singapore last Wednesday, but did not return, sparking a post by a Facebook friend that went viral, asking for information on his whereabouts.

Mr Radakrishna was found at the foot of Phnom Aural by the police, according to the Phnom Penh Post.

“We deployed our police at the feet of Oral Mountain and were ready to send some other officers to climb the mountain to find him, but we just found him at the foot of the mountain,” deputy police chief Met Muth of Kampong Speu province was quoted as saying in the Post.

The trainee teacher was then taken to the Singapore Embassy and looked healthy, the Post reported. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
