SINGAPORE — A Singaporean who went missing while travelling on a ferry from Malaysia to Singapore was found on Saturday, after she was rescued at sea by a fishing vessel.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a statement it received confirmation of this at around 9pm on Saturday, adding that the woman was in Batam.

The woman was discovered to be missing by the SINDO EMPRESS ferry crew on Saturday morning.

The crew had found a bag and shoes on the outer deck of the vessel midway through its journey at 7.50am, about 20 minutes after the ferry departed from Tanjong Pengelih in Johor.

It was also confirmed that she did not disembark at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal, where the ferry berthed.

The woman, believed to be 42 years old, is not injured. Her son has left for Batam to pick her up.

Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said its consulate in Batam is providing assistance.
