SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health announced today (Nov 6) it will conduct a public consultation exercise on the Human Biomedical Research Bill, which is to be enacted in 2015.

The Bill aims to provide clarity regarding the roles and responsibilities of individuals and organisations involved in human biomedical research. It will also ensure that such research, tissue collection and storage are carried out under good research and ethical practices and principles, said MOH in a media briefing.

In particular, the Bill will enhance the protection of the safety and welfare of research participants, regulate categories of restricted research such as human-animal combinations and prohibit commercial trading of human tissues, it added. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
