More charges for German duo in train vandalism case

SINGAPORE — The two Germans who are allegedly involved in a vandalism case involving an SMRT train at Bishan Depot are now facing two additional charges each for entering the area without authorisation.

Andreas Von Knorre and Elton Hinz, both 21, were yesterday charged with entering the depot without authorisation on two other occasions: On Nov 6 at 2.43am and on Nov 7 at about 2.20am.

The two men were first charged on Nov 22 at the State Courts. At that hearing, they were each charged with entering the depot without authorisation on Nov 8 between 2.48am and 3.29am; and spray-painting graffiti on the left exterior cabin of an SMRT train at the depot.

Knorre and Hinz had the two additional charges read out to them in German in court yesterday. They were offered bail of S$100,000 and a pre-trial conference was scheduled for Dec 17.

Deputy public prosecutor Timotheus Koh had pointed out that the two men face charges with serious consequences, and they are foreigners on social visit passes, thus posing a flight risk.

If found guilty of vandalism, Knorre and Hinz could be jailed for up to three years or fined up to S$2,000. They may each also get between three and eight strokes of the cane. For the offence of trespassing, they could be fined S$1,000 or face a jail term of up to two years, if found guilty. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
