SINGAPORE — More family businesses have signed their staff up for Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) courses over the past six months, said Mr Wayne Marriott, Kaplan’s Director of Curriculum and Learning Design during a media conference this morning (Oct 21).

To date, a total of seven such businesses have enrolled in WSQ courses,

One such business, Jew Kit Hainanese Chicken Rice, sent four senior staff to attend the WSQ Leadership and People Management (LPM WSQ) Diploma course, which is conducted by Kaplan Singapore. Founder Teo Jew Kit and managing director Ms Florence Toh also enrolled themselves in the course.

“Florence and I decided to attend the leadership skills course together with the senior staff so that we can also benefit from the training and at the same time use it as an opportunity for off-work bonding... We can also evaluate how well they apply the training at the workplace” said Mr Teo.

There have also been more enquiries from larger organisations like SMEs on whether business owners can participate in WSQ courses as well.

“Over the last one and a half years, approximately 60 per cent of SME enquiries are accompanied by such interest from the owners. They come from a variety of sectors such as manufacturing, education and logistics,” said Mr Marriott. He added that around half of these have already embarked on the WSQ courses.
