More Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS) flats to be added: Khaw Boon Wan

SINGAPORE — The Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS) — introduced last year to provide young couples with affordable temporary housing while waiting for their BTO flat — will be further enhanced to increase the supply of PPHS flats and also allow couples to co-rent and co-pay the flat to reduce their rental expenses.

Announcing this in a blog post today (Oct 31), Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan said the scheme has been well received but more can be done to help these couples.

Another 800 flats, mainly three-room flats, will be added in areas including Bukit Merah and Queenstown to boost the existing supply of 1,150 PPHS flats.

Mr Khaw said the Housing Development Board (HDB) is retrofitting these flats and they will be rolled out from early next year.

Starting from tomorrow, new applicants and existing tenants in PPHS flats can opt to co-rent their flat with another family eligible for the scheme. Co-renting will be available to for all flat-types, with a maximum of two eligible families sharing one flat.

Noting that the few vacant PPHS flats are larger in size, Mr Khaw said: “This will be useful for those who feel that they do not need a whole flat, especially if it is four or five-room.”
