SINGAPORE – The Municipal Services Office (MSO) is looking into consolidating grass-cutting services, in response to public confusion over whom to feedback to with regards maintenance of greenery in public spaces.
At a site visit to Pang Sua Park Connector to better understand key municipal issues on the ground, Minister Grace Fu, who oversees the MSO, said: “MSO is looking into consolidating grass cutting services in public spaces in a more systematic, holistic manner.”
Grass cutting services are currently carried out by several government agencies depending on land ownership. The National Parks Board (NParks) manages the grass along major roads and expressways, parks, park connectors and nature reserves, and some vacant state land, while PUB, the national water agency, handles drainage reserves. The Singapore Land Authority, on the other hand, takes care of what is in vacant state land.
The various agencies carry out grass cutting with differing frequencies and the public has taken notice.
