SINGAPORE — With most Singaporeans unaware of the local history of the offshore islands surrounding Singapore, the National Museum of Singapore is holding a new exhibition which will showcase a side of these islands beyond their present industrial uses.

In the National Heritage Board’s latest exhibition, Balik Pulau: Stories from Singapore’s Islands, visitors will be able to learn more of what became of the over 70 past and present islands that used to house various communities before the Republic’s independence.

Through video interviews, galleries, and artefacts such as historic boats, Balik Pulau aims to chart the changes since then, and inspire current generations to rediscover the islands anew.

Starting last Monday (June 2), the exhibition will run till Aug 10 from 10am to 6pm daily, with free admission.
