New initiative to help ex-offenders return to the workforce

SINGAPORE - A new programme to help ex-offenders return to the workforce was launched today (April 19). The Strengthening Opportunities, Advocating Resilience (SOAR) programme aims to give ex-offenders training and career advice.

SINGAPORE - A new programme to help ex-offenders return to the workforce was launched today (April 19). The Strengthening Opportunities, Advocating Resilience (SOAR) programme aims to give ex-offenders training and career advice.

About 375 ex-offenders are set to benefit from this new initiative within the next two years.

Through SOAR, ex-offenders can get up to 90 per cent subsidy on course fees for courses approved by the Workforce Development Agency (WDA).

The programme is jointly launched by the Industrial & Services Co-operative Society Ltd (ISCOS) and the WDA.

SOAR is open to all ISCOS members without a job.

The programme was launched at a job fair held at the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association.

Some 150 ex-offenders are expected to attend the job fair today. It features more than 120 jobs, from industries such as shipping, food and beverage and logistics. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
