SINGAPORE — The 280-bed Integrated Building jointly operated by Changi General Hospital (CGH) and St. Andrew’s Community Hospital (SACH) will receive its first patients this December, the two hospitals announced today (July 2) at a topping out ceremony.

The facility explores a new model of care to help the ageing population cope with injuries and illnesses.

The outpatient clinics for Rehabilitation Medicine, Neurology, Geriatric Medicine and Psychology Medicine will be the first to open. Inpatient wards will then be progressively opened with CGH operating 180 acute beds in six wards and SACH operating 96 community hospital beds in three wards.

“Through this Integrated Building, we’ll be able to provide a seamless environment for patients, for them to transit from acute care, to sub-acute care and onto outpatient care, and eventually to include home patient care as well,” said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong, speaking to the media at the sidelines of the ceremony to mark the structural completion of the Integrated Building.

A full range of rehabilitation features, facilities and services have been co-created and test bedded by staff from the two hospitals, and will be housed in the Integrated Building to help patients recovering from injury, illness or surgery, and prepare them for the transition back home.

“The Integrated Building is an important milestone in the strong partnership between SACH and CGH. We are both committed to making use of the facility to provide better care to our shared patients, improving our coordination and optimizing rehabilitation,” said Dr Loh Yok Hin, Chief Executive Officer at SACH.
