SINGAPORE — With more customers shopping on their website in recent years, NTUC FairPrice has launched a new service — called Click&Connect — which allows shoppers to buy items online and then collect them at the stores.

This comes after the supermarket chain received feedback from customers who noted it was troublesome when no one is home to receive the items they purchased.

For S$3, customers can choose to collect their goods from seven outlets, including those at East Coast Road, Bedok North Street and Zhongshan Park. They can also choose the date and time of collection, and have to collect it within 24 hours of the chosen time. In comparison, home delivery is S$10 for bills under S$60 and S$7 for bills beyond that amount. The rates do not include Goods and Services Tax.

By the third quarter of next year, FairPrice plans to expand the service to 20 more stores and double the number of items on sale to 10,000. With such a service, customers could avoid long queues and get hold of items which may be not be available at all stores.

Launching the service today (Sept 3), FairPrice said its website registered a year-on-year growth of 15 per cent in sales for the first half of this year.

Other supermarket operators such as Dairy Farm — which runs the Cold Storage and Giant stores — and Sheng Siong also provide home delivery services for their online shoppers.

Cold Storage and Giant charge S$7 for bills S$60 and above, and S$12 for bills below S$60. Sheng Siong provides free delivery services for purchases of S$70 and above, and S$7 under that.

Mr Joke Jong, 31, a project manager who has shopped on FairPrice Online before, welcomed the service. “It would definitely be helpful if I can collect my purchases from the stores as I am not home most of the time. It is also convenient especially for those who want to buy less bulky items,” said Mr Jong.

“However, there are still some products which are not available online for purchasing. People who shop online usually want to explore new products,” he added.

The seven outlets where shoppers can collect their items are:
