SINGAPORE — New roads providing a more direct connection between the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) and parts of the city centre will be opened on Sept 28, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) today (Sept 15).

To be opened at 5am, the new roads were built after a section of the East Coast Parkway, closed after the MCE opened last year, was demolished, freeing up land for new roads to pass through directly to the city centre.

Motorists travelling from MCE Exits 2 and 3 towards Shenton Way and Bayfront Avenue will be able to pass through a straightened Central Boulevard, resulting in a smoother and shorter journey, said the LTA. For example, the journey to Shenton Way from MCE will be reduced by 400m.

There will be a new direct connection from Maxwell Road in the Tanjong Pagar area to get onto the MCE towards east Singapore. This will reduce distance travelled by 600 metres.

The existing slip road from MCE Exit 1 will be aligned with Maxwell Road. A stretch of slip road between Maxwell Road and Central Boulevard will be removed as well.

Bus services 106, 133, 400 and 402 will be re-routed following these changes, said the LTA.

The LTA will introduce measures to help motorists understand the changes. This includes the use of overhead gantry signs, lane usage signs, logos to mark key destinations and a test-drive prior to the opening of the new roads.
