SINGAPORE — From tomorrow (Sept 3), Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) in Jurong East, which opened its doors in late June, will receive all ambulance cases sent by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) within the supported region, as part of its ramp-up of services.

The move will benefit patients in the western and immediate north-western regions by increasing their accessibility to emergency services when needed, said the Ministry of Health today.

The arrangement is also expected to better manage the load of SCDF ambulance cases at hospitals such as National University Hospital (NUH) and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

For certain types of cases such as major trauma, heart attack and acute stroke cases, the SCDF would continue to send the patients to NUH for treatment, the ministry said.

NTFGH received its first patients on June 30, with the opening of its inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and emergency department.

The 700-bed NTFGH, managed by Jurong Health Services, began operations with 365 beds, and opening 80 of its 120 specialist outpatient clinics.

Its emergency department also began operating in phases, by accepting walk-in cases and some SCDF ambulances.

The rest of the beds, clinics and operation theatres in NTFGH will be gradually put into service in the coming year.
