SINGAPORE — Singapore’s third national garden at Jurong Lake will be designed by a team comprising Liu & Wo Architects Pte Ltd, Landscape Design Inc and SALD Pte Ltd, the National Parks Board (NParks) announced on Monday (Oct 24) after awarding the tender to the parties.

They will undertake the concept design for Jurong Lake Gardens Central, consisting of the Chinese and Japanese Gardens, and Jurong Lake Gardens East, which will feature a promenade fronting the new Science Centre and the northern and eastern part of Jurong Lake.

This final team was appointed after six teams out of 31 submissions were shortlisted to go through a second stage of the tender process.

The shortlisted teams were evaluated based on the quality of their proposed masterplans and concept designs, such as their ideas to integrate the gardens and its surroundings, their programmes and attractions for the gardens, and how they are to preserve memories of the site, NParks said in its statement.

A panel comprising Singapore and overseas members with experience in master planning, landscape and design was involved in the evaluation process.

Soon, the NParks will showcase the proposed masterplan and concept design by the appointed team at public engagement sessions.

These are expected to take place from Nov 26 to Dec 4 at Canopy @ J Link in Jurong East, and from Dec 5 to 11 at Lakeside MRT Station, and in various townhall sessions from December this year to February next year.

NParks would consider the suggestions and feedback given at these public sessions, and work with the appointed team to “further refine” the overall masterplan and concept design.

The development of these two sections of the garden will be progressively completed starting from 2020.

The entire garden at Jurong Lake is 90ha in area, or the equivalent of about 144 football fields. It comprises Jurong Lake Gardens West (renamed from Jurong Lake Park), Jurong Lake Gardens Central and Jurong Lake Gardens East.

Singapore’s two national gardens, the Botanic Gardens and Gardens by the Bay, are 74ha and 101ha in size respectively.
