SINGAPORE — The National Solidarity Party (NSP) has reached out to the Workers’ Party (WP) to hold further bilateral talks ahead of the upcoming General Election (GE), acting secretary-general Hazel Poa has confirmed.

This comes after the WP told the media that they wished to proceed with its plans to contest in the MacPherson ward and Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency (GRC), after a second round of planned opposition talks on Thursday (Aug 6) failed to yield a resolution.

“Yes, we understand. We don’t have much time. In fact, NSP would also like to move on,” said Ms Poa. “Yesterday I’ve written an email to Workers’ Party. I don’t wish to go into detail about what is in the email because I feel that it is not in good faith if we conduct discussions over the media. So I’m waiting for Workers' Party to respond.”

Ms Poa was speaking to members of the media after a walkabout in Pioneer Single Member Constituency (SMC), where the party intends to contest in the upcoming GE, as well as the neighbouring Chua Chu Kang GRC. The leaders of the party also shook hands with Chua Chu Kang GRC Member of Parliament Alvin Yeo when they crossed paths. With Mr Yeo was Mr Yee Chia Hsing, the People's Action Party Branch chairman for Punggol East, who has been tipped as a possible election candidate for Chua Chu Kang GRC after being appointed vice-chairman of the Nanyang Cititzens' Consultative Committee.

Responding to queries about potential candidates for Pioneer SMC, Ms Poa declined to give more information for the time being.

“We would like to retain some flexibility in our candidates as for who is to contest where. So we won’t be revealing any details (for now).”
