SINGAPORE — The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) today (Jan 26) mooted the idea of creating a learning account for every Singaporean worker so that they can plan for their own training needs and career.

The individual account - Skillsave Account - may also be used to pay for unfunded portions of training courses and will allow for a follow through on recent announcements by Government such as ASPIRE, CET2020 and SkillsFuture.

During a visit to NTUC LearningHub today, NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Patrick Tay said this Skillsave Account initiative will help workers be prepared for the future as Singapore undergoes economic restructuring and transformation.

The account should also be accessible to all Singaporeans and one important aspect is for this initiative to be portable and seamless, following workers as they move across jobs and careers.

On top of empowering workers to make their own learning decisions, the Skillsave Account will also address current gaps for some workers who do not have access to the Workfare Training Support (WTS) Scheme, which is catered towards helping older low-wage workers improve their employability, as the account can be used to help workers fund Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes.
