SINGAPORE — The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has raised S$11,014,529 this year for low-income union members, their families and some charitable organisations, announced the labour movement at a fundraising dinner today (Nov 12).

The dinner, to mark the 5th anniversary of the NTUC-U Care Fund, was attended by some 900 guests, including union leaders, management partners, corporate donors and some beneficiaries.

The funds were raised through the collective efforts of NTUC-affiliated unions, association and social enterprises, together with management and tripartite partners.

Some of the largest donations this year came from the Singapore Labour Foundation, which gave S$3.5 million, NTUC FairPrice Foundation (S$2.6 million) and NTUC Income (S$1 million). The largest corporate donor was ComfortDelGro, which donated S$130,000.

Since 2009, a grand total of S$77,215,434 has been raised. Most of the funds are disbursed to low-income union members and their family members or to charitable organisations like the Bright Horizons Fund and NTUC Eldercare Trust.

NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and Director of Care & Share Department, Mr Zainal Sapari said: “The mission of NTUC-U Care Fund is to help improve the lives of our low-income union members and their families. We are very grateful to have the strong show of support from all our donors, and it certainly makes our 5th anniversary extra joyous and meaningful.”
