SINGAPORE — An accident involving two trucks – one of which was carrying waste oil – caused an oil spill and a traffic jam on Tampines Expressway (TPE) on Friday morning (March 11).

Channel NewsAsia understands the accident happened at 9.40am.

At around the same time, the Land Transport Authority issued an alert for an accident on TPE towards Pan Island Expressway (PIE), after the Punggol exit. It also cautioned motorists to avoid Lane 3.

Eyewitness Raymond Lee said that when he was close to the site at about 9.50am, black liquid could be seen leaking out from one of the trucks onto the road.

"A fire engine came and left at about five minutes later after inspecting," said Mr Lee.

There has been a spate of oil spills on Singapore's roads in recent weeks, including one on Feb 16 on Lornie Road, which was caused by a broken-down mobile crane.

On Feb 1, an oil spill caused by an accident between a tipper truck and an oil tanker led to two lanes being closed on the PIE. The following day, another oil spill forced the closure of one lane on Kampong Bahru Road. Roads had to be resurfaced in all three incidents. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
