An autonomous bus prototype shuttling between Biopolis and Fusionopolis is set to be launched by 2016. As a start, A*STAR staff will use the bus to commute between the two locations. A*STAR chairman Lim Chuan Poh said its adoption in controlled conditions could be in 2020.

The National University of Singapore, with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been testing four autonomous golf-buggies within the campus. From Sept 3, two will be deployed on the footpaths of the Chinese and Japanese Gardens in Jurong Lake District — and the public can use them for free. They also have an autonomous car, SCOT, that can be remotely summoned and can detect obstacles with laser sensors.

ST Kinetics has developed an autonomous unmanned ground vehicle called Terrav, which can detect other vehicles coming from different directions.

Nanyang Technological University is testing its electric autonomous shuttle bus at its campus and JTC’s Cleantech Park. The vehicle can seat up to 10 people and can detect obstacles and plan its path.

The PSA Singapore Terminals has been developing Automated Guided Vehicle prototypes that will operate 24/7 for its future container terminals, to transport containers between the quay and the container yard without drivers.
