SINGAPORE — The People’s Action Party (PAP) has found “good candidates” to represent the residents of Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Senior Minister of State for Transport and Finance Josephine Teo said today (July 26), without revealing any names.

She stressed that leadership renewal is key to the political system in Singapore.

“The People’s Action Party has a long-standing practice of continuous renewal,” said Mrs Teo. “I think this practice is important for the health of our political system and I think every election we expect to see new faces.

“I think it’s a matter of finding good people who are willing to give their time and energy to serve. I think the residents can be assured whatever it is, and however we assemble the team, it’ll be a team that’s committed of looking after their interest.

“I’m confident that we have found good candidates who want to represent the people of Bishan-Toa Payoh.”

Mrs Teo was speaking to the media after a visit to Bishan North to remind residents to do their part to stem dengue transmission.

She also gave assurances to residents under Moulmein-Kallang GRC following changes in electoral boundaries. Moulmein-Kallang GRC will be dissolved and some voters from the Moulmein ward will be redistributed to Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC.

Mrs Teo said her team will work with grassroots leaders to know the residents better. She added that it will be more challenging to run town councils as the estates are completely different now compared to 50 years ago.

However, she also pointed to opportunities, such as in making estates more green with many more enjoyable spaces for families. 938LIVE
