SINGAPORE — Artillery shell casings collected from a 21-gun salute for Mr Lee Kuan Yew during his State Funeral last year will be presented to people, institutions and organisations closely linked to the late founding Prime Minister of Singapore.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office on Thursday (March 17), the recipients for the shell casings include:
- the eulogists at the State Funeral Service
- the organisers of the State Funeral
- the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the Singapore Police Force, the People’s Association, the Parliament, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, the Housing & Development Board, the National Parks Board, and PUB, Singapore’s national water agency.

The SAF's 21st Battalion fired a 21-gun salute with four ceremonial 25-pounder howitzers for Mr Lee from the Padang on 29 March 2015, as his cortege made a final journey across Singapore.

"I asked the SAF to collect the 21 artillery shell casings, to be presented to people, institutions and organisations that were closely linked to Mr Lee," Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong wrote in a post on Facebook. "My deep thanks to all of them for the roles they played in my father’s life and for their contributions to the nation."

The CPIB said it will put the artillery shell casing it has received on public display, as part of an upcoming exhibition the bureau is holding from April 7 to May 22 at the National Library.

"The late Mr Lee Kuan Yew knew that Singapore’s survival and success depended on keeping Singapore corruption-free and having a clean government imbued with the values of honesty and integrity," the CPIB said in a statement. "Recognising the CPIB’s instrumental role in keeping the system clean, the late Mr Lee backed the Bureau with the resources, the legislation and the independence to carry out its work without fear or favour."

HDB will also publicly display the artillery shell casing it received at the HDB Gallery located at its hub in Toa Payoh. "We are deeply honoured to be a recipient of the artillery shell casing. It will always remind us of Mr Lee’s vision and spur us to build on his legacy, to give Singaporeans better homes and better lives,” HDB CEO Dr Cheong Koon Hean said in a statement.
