Pilot fitness training programme for Home Team NSmen

SINGAPORE — Home Team National Servicemen (NSmen) could soon get more help passing their Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) with a pilot fitness training programme that will kick off later this year.

The programme, called Train and Pass, will offer personalised, one-on-one coaching by NSmen who were former Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) from the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

This was revealed today (July 25) by Senior Minister of State (Home Affairs) Masagos Zulkifli at a tour of the refurbished HomeTeamNS Balestier Clubhouse.

The pilot will involve 120 NSmen who will take part in 10 fitness sessions over five weeks.

Those in the pilot can choose their training timings and venues that are convenient for them.

They will also be able to use the new gym facilities and training equipment at HomeTeamNS’s clubhouses.

Said Mr Masagos: “Our NSmen will be able to get access to sound physical training advice from their own fellow NSmen who are PTIs, and they will be on hand to customise their training, not just to pass IPPT, but also to ensure they have a holistic view about what health means and then to address some of the concerns, whether it’s weight loss or stamina.

More details of the training programme will be released by year end.
