SINGAPORE – The Pioneer Generation (PG) cards, which will help healthcare providers identify eligible pioneers for special subsidies, were officially launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today (Aug 1).

As part of the Pioneer Generation Package (PGP) welcome pack, the cards will be distributed to about 450,000 seniors this month. Seniors can start using the cards from next month to enjoy the medical benefits under the PGP.

These include subsidies at participating General Practitioners (GP) and dental clinics under the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS), an additional 50 per cent off subsidised treatments at polyclinics and Specialist Outpatient Clinics, among other things.

Speaking at the launch - where some 100 pioneers were the first to receive the cards - Mr Lee said many have been “anticipating” the arrival of the cards and the private sector partners have also been working hard to produce, pack and deliver them.

He added: “I hope this PG package... which you will get this evening, will help you with your healthcare needs, and give you and your family peace of mind.”

In his Mandarin speech, Mr Lee also noted that since the announcement of the PGP, many activities have been held to recognise the pioneers’ contributions as well as to explain the benefits under the scheme.

It was also reported last month that a panel is looking into appeals requesting to join the PGP scheme. The scheme is for those aged 65 years and above and who became citizens before 1987.

Apart from the PG cards, pioneers can also expect to receive a personalised list of the six nearest CHAS clinics to the pioneer’s home, a CHAS clinic directory and a booklet detailing in four languages the benefits of the Pioneer Generation Package.
