SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has congratulated Mr Joko Widodo on winning the Indonesia election.
In a Facebook post today (July 22), Mr Lee said that he was “looking forward to working with (Mr Widodo) to strength Indonesia-Singapore friendship”.
The Jakarta governor, popularly known as Jokowi, was declared the winner of Indonesia’s presidential race today. The country’s elections commission said Mr Widodo got 53.15 per cent of the vote, compared to his rival ex-general Prabowo Subianto’s roughly 47 per cent — a margin of about 8.4 million votes.
With a voter turn-out of almost 70 per cent, more than 133 million ballots were collated from across the archipelago nation. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
