SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was seen posing for a picture with grassroots leaders such as Mr Phang Tai Heng and Mr Phua Him Ko at a Chinese New Year Garden Party hosted by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and Cabinet ministers at the Istana Lawn today (Mar 1).

The Garden Party is held in appreciation of the contributions to the community of grassroots and community leaders. It is another occasion to mark Singapore’s 50th year of independence this year.

Among the 4,200 grassroots and community leaders invited, 500 are Pioneer Generation grassroots leaders. Mr Phang and Mr Phua are the only two Pioneer Generation leaders who have volunteered for community service for 50 years since 1965.
