SINGAPORE — A 44-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty on board a public bus.

A 25-year-old woman lodged a police report on Sept 19 saying that she had been molested on a public bus near Marsiling on Aug 31. The suspect was eventually arrested in the vicinity of Khatib yesterday (Sept 23) at about 10am, the police said in a statement today.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is also believed to be involved in a similar case of outrage of modesty on Sept 22, the police said.

The man will be charged in court tomorrow. If convicted, he may be jailed up to two years, or fined, and caned.

The police advised members of the public to stay calm when they encounter such crimes while travelling on public transport. They should call “999” immediately, inform the bus or train captain or seek help from other commuters immediately to report the matter.
