SINGAPORE— There could be slightly hazy conditions this weekend if hotspot activities increase in south Sumatra and winds become unfavourable, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a statement on Friday (Sept 2).
The prevailing light winds may shift to blow from the south-west or west, and persist into next week, said the NEA. Dry weather conditions are expected for southern Sumatra.
In Singapore, thundery showers are expected in the late morning and early afternoon on Saturday, with the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) for the next 24 hours expected to be in the moderate range (51-100).
On Friday, the 24-hour PSI was 45-57 (in the Good to Moderate range) at 5pm. A total of 13 hotspots were detected, mostly in southern Sumatra, and there was also no visible haze observed there.
Given the air quality forecast for the next 24 hours, the NEA said “everyone can continue with normal activities”. However, it advised that the public, especially the elderly and children and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, seek medical attention if they felt unwell.
