Pritam Singh appointed chairman of Aljunied-Hougang Town Council

SINGAPORE — The Workers’ Party’s Pritam Singh will chair the reconstituted Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC).
Mr Singh takes over from fellow Aljunied GRC Member of Parliament (MP) Sylvia Lim, who was chairperson of the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol-East Town Council (AHPETC). Ms Lim and Mr Png Eng Huat will be the vice-chairmen of AHTC.
In a statement today, AHTC said that Mr Singh’s appointment was to “further deepen leadership capacity and for job rotation”.
Mr Singh thanked Ms Lim, for her “unstinting efforts in laying the foundation for the direct management of the town council”.
The statement added that AHTC will “make best efforts to create a fresh, clean and healthy living environment for all, and promote goodwill and social cohesion to build a strong community”.
Today (Oct 1), the Ministry of National Development (MND) announced the formation of 16 town councils at the request of MPs following the General Election.
The 16 town councils comprise two newly-formed town councils, 13 reconstituted town councils and one unchanged town council.
“MND encourages all town councils to work together to ensure a smooth transition, so that the needs of all residents can continue to be served,” said MND in a statement.
