SINGAPORE — A record 98.4 per cent of students who took the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) this year qualified to move on to secondary school, just a shade better than last year’s recording-setting 98.3 per cent.

Among them, 66.4 per cent are eligible for the Express stream, up from last year’s 66.2 per cent, but slightly lower than the record 66.7 per cent achieved by the class of 2013.

The remaining 21.4 per cent qualify for the Normal (Academic) course, and 10.6 per cent make it to the Normal (Technical) course, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Thursday (Nov 24).

A total of 38,808 Primary Six students sat for the PSLE this year. Students began collecting their PSLE results from their respective primary schools from 11am on Thursday.

For the 1.6 per cent who did not qualify for secondary school, MOE said those who attempted their PSLE for the first time this year could either try again in the coming year or apply to Assumption Pathway School (APS) or NorthLight School (NLS). The rest who had taken their PSLE multiple times will be preferentially offered a place at APS or NLS.

Students who have decided on their secondary school options can submit their forms at their primary school from 9am to 3pm until Nov 30, excluding weekends. Alternatively, they can make an online submission via the Secondary One Internet System until Nov 30 at 3pm.

Posting results will be released on Dec 21, and students are to report to the secondary schools they are posted to at 8.30am the next day.

“We would like to reiterate that there are many different secondary schools to choose from. Some have unique programmes while others offer different educational paths, but all seek to maximise the potential of every student,” said MOE.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said students can submit their secondary school choices online via the Secondary One Internet System from 11am on Friday. This is incorrect. It starts on Thursday (Nov 24). We are sorry for the error.
