SINGAPORE — Punggol Town will have more than 4,000 new preschool places by end-2017 compared to 2013.

The government had announced plans to have more preschools in the area earlier this year and three preschools run by PAP Community Foundation were officially opened today (July 25).

The three Sparkle Tots preschools in Punggol West have been in operation since 2013, and along with another centre in the area, currently offer a total of 340 childcare places.

Two of the PCF kindergartens are at Block 303A and Block 271A, while two childcare centres are at Block 602 and Block 302C.

Another two centres run by PCF will be opened at the end of this year, offering another 140 places each. They will be housed at Block 308 and Block 676 and will offer both kindergarten and childcare services.

The childcare places offered by PCF will then total 850 in Punggol West.

Speaking at today’s opening, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is an MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, said the preschools are part of continuing efforts to support young Singaporean families.

“Punggol is a new town with many young families and one of their key priorities is places for their kids as they are growing up. On average, in Punggol Town, we open an average of five preschools centres every year and that’s about a thousand places a year and we will continue to do that to make sure we can cater to our young families here,” Mr Teo added.
