SINGAPORE — An inaugural “retrolicious” carnival will be held at the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station on National day, featuring activities ranging from nostalgic games like five stones and chapteh to carousel and bumper car rides.

In conjunction with the Republic’s Golden Jubilee Year celebrations, the former railway station will be open to the public from 9am to 9pm on Aug 9, said the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) in a press release today (July 30). The carnival will be held there until 6pm.

After the carnival, a live screening of the National Day Parade will be held until 9pm.

Chief executive of SLA Tan Boon Khai said: “Since the former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was vested to the State in 2011, it has been popular with Singaporeans young and old, due to its historical significance and rustic charm. As Singapore celebrates its Golden Jubilee, we welcome everyone to join us in our celebration of Singapore’s 50th Birthday at our iconic national monument.”

A board called “Faces of Singapore” will also be set up for visitors to pen down their wishes and dreams for Singapore.

To prepare for the carnival as well as reinstatement works after the event, the site will not be open on Aug 7 and 10.
