Revised Registers of Electors open for public inspection from June 20

SINGAPORE — The registers of electors have been revised, and are open for public inspection from today until July 3, said the Elections Department (ELD) Monday (June 19).

The move comes as Singapore gets ready for a presidential election in September, which is reserved for the Malay community, and has a tightened criteria for candidacy.

The revised registers contain the names of all qualified electors as of June 1 this year.

To be an elector, one must be a Singapore citizen aged at least 21 years old as of June 1, and not disqualified as an elector under any written law. He or she must also have a Singapore residential address on his NRIC as of June 1.

Singaporeans can check their particulars in the registers via the ELD website, or at community centres and clubs, at Singapore overseas missions that serve as overseas registration centres, and at the ELD with their identity card or passport.

Those whose names have been removed from the registers of electors because they did not vote in a previous election may continue to apply to have their names restored, to enable them to vote in future elections.

Overseas Singaporeans — whose names are listed in the registers and have resided in Singapore for an aggregate of at least 30 days between June 1, 2014, and May 31 this year — may also continue to register as overseas voters, so that they can vote at designated overseas polling stations in future elections.
