SINGAPORE — Motorists will have more channels to renew their road tax and will not have to display the paper road tax discs soon, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Monday (Aug 29).

From Sept 1, road tax renewal can be done through AXS’ mobile and Internet platforms, on top of the existing channels of AXS stations, the One.Motoring portal and Giro.

And from Feb 15 next year, paper road tax discs will not need to be displayed on vehicle windscreens.

Paper road tax discs will be issued for renewals from now until Feb 14 and discontinued thereafter, as a result.

The LTA said motorists can check and print proof of the validity of their road tax, as well as receive road tax payment reminders at the One.Motoring website.

Enforcement officers will check the validity of the road tax electronically.

The LTA reminded motorists to ensure that their original motor insurance certificate is readily available in their vehicles at all times.

Those driving into Malaysia are advised to carry printed proof of the validity of their road tax in their vehicles.

The authority added that failure to pay road tax is an offence that carries a S$2,000 fine.
