SINGAPORE — Celebrations for SAF’s 50th Anniversary will kick start with a jointly organised military exhibition featuring all three armed forces — the Singapore Army, the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) — at VivoCity.

The four-day-long event, SAF50@Vivo, marks the first phase of the celebration and will commence on Feb 12. Visitors can look forward to never seen before exhibits such as a replica of an RSN submarine's tower and get the chance to board the navy's largest vessel — the Landing Ship Tank (LST).

The public will also get to participate in the celebrations through a “Ship Naming” competition for the RSN’s newest vessels.

Other phases of the celebration include a roving exhibition that will visit the heartlands as well as specially designed “Thank You” cards available island wide for the public to show their appreciation to servicemen and women in their lives.

To involve more Singaporeans in the celebration, women and youths will be encouraged to don camouflage-patterned clothing on SAF Day on July 1.

The final phase of the celebration will be held in honour of SAF personnel past and present.

Some events planned include the release of a book compilation of stories relating to SAF as well as the SAF50@Istana Open House on July 26.

SAF servicemen will be encouraged to spend that day with their families at the President’s office.
