SINGAPORE — A sneak peak of the new Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps (SAFVC) was shown today (Oct 2).

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen showed the image on his Facebook page, saying the logo is “quite handsome and captures our fierce determination to protect our independence, even though we are a small nation”.

“Also, it retains some historical elements of the previous volunteer force incorporated in 1854,” he wrote, adding that the logo “remembers our past, notes how far we have come and looks forward”.

The SAFVC, proposed by the Committee to Strengthen National Service, will allow women, first generation Permanent Residents and new citizens to contribute to national defence and strengthen support for National Service.

The volunteers will undergo a four-week course to gain basic military skills and values and will be orientated to their operational and professional roles in the SAFVC.

More details on the SAFVC will be released in the middle of this month.
