SINGAPORE - Continuing efforts of its tattoo removal programme launched last August, the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) has partnered up the National Skin Centre (NSC) to help 80 more ex-offenders who wishes to remove their tattoos.
As part of the NSC’s 25th anniversary, a 2.4km charity walk targeted to raise S$50,000 for SANA’s tattoo removal programme for ex-offenders will be held at Gardens by the Bay this Saturday (Aug 23).
SANA’s tattoo removal programme was launched last year to help ex-offenders who wishes to remove their tattoos but was unable to do so due to the high cost of the lasering treatment which typically costs S$400 to S$500 per session. Under the programme, ex-offenders will only have to pay S$12 to S$15 for a single session after the subsidies from both SANA and NSC.
To date, SANA’s tattoo removal programme has benefited 18 ex-offenders.
“We started this programme last year because our clients approached us and say that they want to remove their tattoos because they don’t want to be identified with the gangs for them to better reintegrate into society. Some of the clients also shared that by removing the tattoos it would give them better opportunities in securing employment,” said Mr Abdul Karim, Executive Director of SANA.
“We feel that this is a good move, and it will give our clients hope, raise their self-esteem because there will be family and community acceptance.”
