SINGAPORE — Walk away if someone claiming to be a government official offers you cash for your SingPass account details.

It is a scam, said the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech). It first alerted the public to the scam on Friday (Dec 2) via their official Facebook page.

In the post, GovTech wrote that a few members of the public had been offered cash in exchange for their SingPass account details and 2-Step Verification (2FA) passwords. They were approached in public places in different parts of Singapore, by individuals claiming to be government officials.

“Government officers will not ask for your confidential information including SingPass passwords, nor provide monetary incentive in exchange for them. We have advised affected individuals to lodge a police report,” GovTech added.

Members of the public are advised to inform the police and contact GovTech at qsm [at] tech.gov.sg if they spot any suspicious activities relating to SingPass.
