SINGAPORE — A Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) fire engine sunk into the courtyard outside of shopping mall VivoCity this evening (Jan 19), cracking several tiles on the pavement.

An SCDF spokesperson says that at around 6.05pm, the fire engine was moving off after a fire safety inspection when its rear wheels sank.

A member of the public who declined to be named, sent in pictures, and said the fire engine was stuck outside of Tangs. The area around it was barricaded by 6.45pm, Channel NewsAsia understands. A tow truck was on the scene by 7.20pm, and water was being drained from the fire engine, according to the eye-witness.

As of 9pm, the fire engine was still stuck. The SCDF spokesperson says they are working with contractors to remove the engine safely.

SCDF adds that it is investigating the incident and will work closely with the management of the shopping mall. There were four people on board the fire engine at the time, but no one was injured. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
