SINGAPORE — A fire broke out in the kitchen of an 11th-floor unit in Block 411, Pandan Gardens, yesterday afternoon, while the occupants were out.

No one was injured in the fire, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which was alerted to the blaze at 2.04pm. It sent five fire emergency vehicles — three fire engines, one Red Rhino and one combined platform ladder — and one ambulance to the scene within two minutes and put out the fire with one water jet in less than 20 minutes.

About 40 residents from the 10th and 12th floors were also evacuated, said the SCDF.

The 45-year-old said he overheard some residents worrying that the winds could bring the smoke to their homes.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Siau Ming En
