SINGAPORE — The Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Unmanned Firefighting Machine (UFM) (picture) gave firefighters a strategic advantage in extinguishing a raging fire at a warehouse.
It took 80 SCDF personnel about two-and-a-hours to put out the fire, which broke out at a warehouse housing waste products in Tuas Avenue 11, yesterday afternoon.
The machine, which was showcased at the SCDF’s workplan seminar earlier this month, was deployed inside the warehouse belonging to Technochem Environmental Complex, to spray foam into the seat of the raging fire, which was about 50m by 50m.
“When we arrived, the warehouse was already engulfed by the fire and we saw flames going through the roof,” said Colonel Ling Young Ern, commander of the 4th SCDF Division.
“We deployed the UFM, which gave us the strategic advantage of going right into the seed of the fire, manoeuvring through the rubble to tackle the seed of the fire ... That enabled us to put out the fire very effectively,” said Col Ling.
There were no reported injuries, the SCDF said. Channel NewsAsia
