Schooling, Team Singapore athletes featured on new special edition stamps

SINGAPORE — To commemorate Team Singapore’s achievements at Rio 2016, Singapore Post (SingPost), in collaboration with Singapore National Olympic Council, will release two special edition Rio 2016 Games of the XXXI Olympiad MyStamp sheets on Aug 29.

SINGAPORE — To commemorate Team Singapore’s achievements at Rio 2016, Singapore Post (SingPost), in collaboration with Singapore National Olympic Council, will release two special edition Rio 2016 Games of the XXXI Olympiad MyStamp sheets on Aug 29.

SingPost will also contribute all net proceeds, or a minimum of S$10,000, of the sale of these MyStamp sheets to the Singapore Olympic Foundation.

The first sheet is the Team Singapore MyStamp sheet, which is priced at S$20 and honours the Singapore athletes for their efforts and achievements at this year’s Olympic games. (The total face value of the stamps on this sheet is S$6.60.)

The stamps on this sheet features images of Singapore’s Olympians who went to Rio, from swimmers (Joseph Schooling and the Quah siblings) to shuttlers (Liang Xiao Yu and Derrick Wong); from rower Saiyidah Aisyah to sailors such as Denise Lim and Justin Liu; from paddlers such as Feng Tian Wei, Yu Meng Yu and Zhou Yi Han, to shooters Jasmine Ser and Teo Shun Xie and runners Timothee Yap and Neo Jie Shi.

The other sheet is called the Singapore’s First Olympic Gold MyStamp sheet. Priced at S$10, this sheet features stamps with photographs of Joseph Schooling’s victorious swim and medal reception. The total face value of stamps is S$2.40.

The public can purchase a specially priced set of both sheets for S$25.

Mr Woo Keng Leong, CEO (Postal Services) of SingPost, said: “With these stamps, every Singaporean can own a piece of this milestone. Most importantly, these stamps demonstrate our support of Singapore’s talented athletes and their pursuit of sporting excellence at the highest levels.”

These MyStamp sheets will be available at all post offices and the Singapore Philatelic Museum from Aug 29; or online at www.stampdelight.com. Pre-orders can be made at post offices and online from Aug 22.

SingPost previously released a Games of the XXXI Olympiad stamp set in celebration of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
