SINGAPORE — The Merlion is taking to the skies.

Budget airline Scoot today (July 6) unveiled its newest Boeing 787 Dreamliner featuring the iconic Merlion, birthday greetings for Singapore as well as crew caricatures. The SG50 party-themed livery was painted on the plane, named Maju-lah. over seven days, with certain sections painted by hand.

“The livery design evokes festive revelry,” said Scoot in a press release, citing “effervescent Scootees, big red party balloons and bursts of confetti”, among others. The names of 20 local companies, which are the airline’s partners in this campaign, are featured on balloons on the livery.

“Scoot also wanted to give other Singapore success stories the canvas to celebrate, so we are honoured to join hands with twenty local companies ... to send our collective birthday well-wishes to Singapore,” said Scoot Chief Executive Campbell Wilson.

The airline’s National Day In-Flight Party will also be held on the plane on July 31.

“We are proud to join the SG50 celebrations and show that pride on an aircraft that will be seen around the world for months to come,” said Mr Wilson.
