SEA Games: 2 arrested for alleged involvement in selling fake Thai vs Vietnam tickets

SINGAPORE — Two men have been arrested for their suspected involvement in the sale of counterfeit tickets for the SEA Games football match between Vietnam and Thailand at Bishan Stadium tomorrow night (June 10).

As many as 226 tickets for the Group B clash between the table-toppers and runner up may have been duplicated, and spectators holding on to these tickets may be denied entry into the stadium, said the police in a press release today.

TODAY understands that tickets for the game at the 3,500-capacity stadium tomorrow are sold out.

Police said investigations against the two men, aged 29 and 31, are ongoing. The offence of cheating is punishable with jail of up to 10 years and a fine.

It also advised members of the public to buy SEA Games tickets from the official website, ticketing hotline or SingPost outlets and the Box Office at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

“We urge the public to be mindful of purchasing tickets through unauthorised vendors and report this to the organising committee via the official ticketing hotline,” the police added.

The arrests are the second incident to rock the 28th SEA Games’ football.

A day before Timor Leste and Malaysia were to kick off the opening match on May 30, four men were arrested for corruption, including the Timor Leste team manager and a player. The other two are Singaporean Rajendran R Kurusamy, a former associate of Singaporean match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal, and Indonesian national Nasiruddin.
