SEA Games: Shanti Pereira sets new national record in 100m dash, qualifies for final

KUALA LUMPUR — Sprinter Shanti Pereira set a new national record on Tuesday (Aug 22) in the women's 100m dash, with a time of 11.73sec.

KUALA LUMPUR — Sprinter Shanti Pereira set a new national record on Tuesday (Aug 22) in the women's 100m dash, with a time of 11.73sec.

The old national record was 11.80sec, set by Shanti herself.

Competing in heat 2 of the event, Shanti finished second behind Malaysia's Husniah Zulkifli who clocked 11.61sec. 

She will enter Tuesday night's final as the third fastest runner after Vietnam's Le Tu Chinh clocked 11.49sec en route to winning the first semi-final.

Shanti won a bronze in the 100m in the 2015 SEA Games, as well as a gold in the 200m dash.
